Writes weekly columns on Sunday and Wednesday on the literary and art scenes for El Nuevo Herald in Miami. She has been a journalist since 1981, having worked for "Vanidades", "Cosmopolitan" and other international magazines. Her most recent interviews include the one with ex president Bill Clinton on his book "My Life", and with Andy Garcia, Tomas Milian and Ines Sastre, while on location in Santo Domingo filming "Lost City / La ciudad perdid". Having a Ph.D in Romance Languages and Literatures from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (1980), she has also taught Hispanic Literature and Journalism courses in a variety of well-known American universities, such as Pennsylvania, Swarthmore, Dickinson, Florida International and the University of Miami. She has interviewed film maker John Huston, Nobel Prize poet Octavio Paz, Russian laureate poet Yevgeni Yevtushenko, Cervantes Prize this year, Gonzalo Rojas, and a variety of writers related to "telenovela", such as the Brazilian Gloria Perez, author of "El Clon", and the
