Before joining the U.S. Hispanic Group, Joa Silar served as the Director of Programming for Discovery Kids and People+Arts in Latin America, helping to launch both channels and developing effective program strategies for each. Before that, Joa Silar was Director of Programming and Production for Discovery Kids and Animal Planet in Latin America. In this role, she successfully launched the two channels in the region and oversaw programming strategy for each, including regional development, acquisitions and programming schedules.
Joa Silar also held the position of Director of Programming and Operations for Discovery Kids in the United States, based in New York. In this position, she supervised programming content, creative direction, and budgets for the network. Joa Silar started her career at Discovery as Programming Coordinator and, shortly afterward, as a Production Supervisor for Discovery Channel in Latin America.
Before joining Discovery, Joa Silar worked for Agga-Chan, Inc., as a Controller for seven years. There, she created and coordinated all operating budgets and contract negotiations.
Joa Silar graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in Communications and a specialization in Film Production. She is currently based in Miami.
